JLPT Grammar Questions

Currently the grammar section of the JLPT is broken into six sets of questions. Being conscious of the types of questions in the JLPT will help you approach them giving you better chances of success. It is all about the right preperation. In this post we will look at the first two sets of questions.

Important Tips for section I questions

This section deals with particles; は、が、を、に. And so on. This is where you can get
some easy marks and get warmed up. If you follow my tips and complete all the tests you
should get full marks.

1. Read the sentence and if possible try to guess the answer before even looking at
the four choices. Remember to read slowly and take your time.

2. Look at what is coming before and after the underline__________.

● What kind of noun is before the underline?
● What is the verb? What kind of verb? What is the tense?
● What is the subject?
● What is the object?

3. Go through any rules you know on each particle.

4. In the videos we discuss particles in detail. Please take notes

Important Tips for section II questions

This section tests your grammatical understanding of verbs and adjectives. Knowing tense
and compounds (combined simple sentences) is very important. This section is a little
harder than the first section
.
5. Read the sentence and if possible try to guess the answer before even looking at
the four choices. Remember to read slowly and take your time.

6. If your choices are verbs look at each verb choice and ask

● What is the tense or form of the verb?
● What is the particle or adverb before the underline?
● Does this work in this sentence? Does the subject or object agree with the verb?
● Does it sound right?

7. If your choices are adjectives look at each adjective choice and ask

● Is this an い or a な adjective ?
● What is coming before and after the adjective?
● What tense is the verb or sentence?
● Does the adjective describe the noun correctly?

8. Does it sound right or make sense?

9. Think and eliminate wrong choices
